California Road Trip Part 2

Hey y’all!

Here is my continuation of our road trip adventures…

We hit the road to San Francisco from Monterey Bay and the drive was just as magical as it had been the previous few days. It was literally heaven on earth! It was lovely to be on the open road with my honey. We talked about all the future dreams we have and how amazing it would be to live in an RV and travel all over the place. It would be a minimalist life style full of adventures and memories rather than stuff. I love hearing Chris talk about the future and all the wonderful and creative ideas he has, he really lights up when he talks about it and I fall more and more in love with him because of it. It’s a magical feeling to dream about the future together. [Read more...]

California Road Trip Part 1

Hello!

We are now home from our road trip adventures, I’m happy to be home, but sad at the same time. We saw so many beautiful things that I can’t even begin to share with you all how magnificent it was. We took California Hwy 1 and it was the most magical drive of my entire life. The drive is long and the roads are narrow and curvy, but it is so worth it. The scenery you see on California Hwy 1 is straight out of a picture. I was overwhelmed by all the beauty that surrounded us at all times. There are great pull outs, shops, and diners along the way. Everything along this route has so much character in it. It’s amazing to see how nature will find a way to grow and thrive anywhere, no matter what. There was something so emotional about this drive, I realized how beautiful life is and how much more precious memories are than stuff or things. I was drawn in by the trees; many of them growing solo out the side of a rock mountain. It’s just incredible. No one can tell a tree where to grow, because it will find a way to grow anywhere. It’s pretty impressive to take a trip and really absorb the nature that surrounds you. There are so many lessons to be learned from nature, all it’s beauty and strength, and yet it can’t speak to you with a voice. However, it speaks in great volume to my soul without saying anything at all, if I just listen with my heart and open my mind. [Read more...]

My cozy sanctuary. Balcony makeover!

Hi friends!

I’m a big fan of decorating. There is something so rewarding about creating a space for my family that is cozy, functional, and stylish. I’m the type of person that gets bored easily with my “space” and I need to change it up a bit. Another thing I love…is cleaning like a mad woman all day, then lighting some candles in the evening, pouring a glass of wine, and taking in the rewarding feeling of a clean home. I noticed recently that even if I add a plant to our home or move around a few things, I fall in love with our home all over again. One of my favorite spaces is our balcony. It’s pretty small, so learning how to make the best use of space is so important. You don’t have to get discouraged just because an area is small…you can still make it a wonderful and cozy sanctuary that you love.

We live in an apartment and out deck is about 6 x 12 approx. 72sq ft, so we wanted to figure out a way to make our balcony a little bit more private without making it feel claustrophobic. I found some bamboo reed fencing at Home Depot that was perfect for a little added privacy. We opted for the thinner bamboo so that there was still good air flow and light coming into our balcony space. My fiance, Chris used a staple gun to secure it to the existing wood railing on our balcony. It has worked great, and has been able to withstand the wind and occasional yucky weather we get. Our new neighbor loved the idea so much that they went out and did the same thing to their balcony!

wicker bench and cushion

I was driving around one day and found a really great wicker bench that someone was getting rid of. It was not in the greatest shape, but I knew with a little love it would be perfect. I brought the bench home and sprayed it down with the hose, to help remove any dirt or peeling paint. I then spray painted the wicker bench black, with 2 in 1 spray paint in satin black. It already has the primer in it, so it saved me a lot of time…with the satin finish it gives it just a touch of gloss without making it look ridiculously shiny. The bench turned out great! Road Trip

Hello explorers!

My fiance, Chris and I have been trying to figure out a trip for ourselves for the past couple weeks. He is busiest with work in the summer and spends a lot of time away from home on the road, so we really try and plan a few outings for ourselves when we can. We have right around a week to have some adult fun and we are taking full advantage of it. Chris gets some seriously amazing ideas flowing, so many that they all sound great and it becomes hard to choose. My concern for him is that I don’t want him to have to do oodles of tiring traveling, he does enough of that for work, but he is selfless in that he will put in the travel time to be able to take me somewhere I have never been. He is really caring in that way. It has been an exhausting back and forth about what plans are the ones for us, but finally we have settled on an idea that suits us perfectly. [Read more...]
