California Road Trip Part 1

Hello!

We are now home from our road trip adventures, I’m happy to be home, but sad at the same time. We saw so many beautiful things that I can’t even begin to share with you all how magnificent it was. We took California Hwy 1 and it was the most magical drive of my entire life. The drive is long and the roads are narrow and curvy, but it is so worth it. The scenery you see on California Hwy 1 is straight out of a picture. I was overwhelmed by all the beauty that surrounded us at all times. There are great pull outs, shops, and diners along the way. Everything along this route has so much character in it. It’s amazing to see how nature will find a way to grow and thrive anywhere, no matter what. There was something so emotional about this drive, I realized how beautiful life is and how much more precious memories are than stuff or things. I was drawn in by the trees; many of them growing solo out the side of a rock mountain. It’s just incredible. No one can tell a tree where to grow, because it will find a way to grow anywhere. It’s pretty impressive to take a trip and really absorb the nature that surrounds you. There are so many lessons to be learned from nature, all it’s beauty and strength, and yet it can’t speak to you with a voice. However, it speaks in great volume to my soul without saying anything at all, if I just listen with my heart and open my mind.

We made our way to Monterey Bay, CA and stayed for two nights. We were pretty mellow the first day, as we had been on such a long drive all day. We ate dinner, drank wine, and watched baseball; It was peaceful and relaxing. The beach was right out our front door and it was incredible to watch the way the ocean changes from day to night. The waves were unreal crashing along the shoreline with so much passion and fierceness. The ocean for me is very emotional. I look at the way the waves come and go and think about trials in life, emotions, and happiness…it’s constantly changing. I look at the rocks, people, and animals that are a part of the ocean and how they just go with the flow, because they really have no choice and if they do not go with the flow of the ocean they will only make things harder on themselves. This is a great lesson that I need to be constantly reminded of.

We woke up the next day and grabbed some coffee and then set out for town and the famous Cannery Row. We walked around all day and even though it had been raining the day before, it turned out to be a beautiful day with the sun shining bright. We walked up and down Cannery Row looking at all the trinkets and gift shops.

We went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and drank coffee by the ocean. We found this incredible driving area that went along the shoreline in town, it was a perfect place to watch the waves. Chris and I sat there drinking our coffee and watching the waves crash against the rocks for quite some time; I think we both could have sat there all day and never would have tired of it.

We continued down the little street that ran along the ocean and through the beach homes and found a wonderful sitting area. It was quaint and lovely, there was a wooden bench, tiny purple and yellow flowers that canvassed the area, with a view of the rocks and shoreline with the waves crashing against them. It was so peaceful sitting there and just watching nature do it’s thing.

After a long day of walking around and exploring we headed back to our room and began looking for somewhere to have dinner. We both got on Yelp and were being quite indecisive when we decided to just go get mexican food again at this little local shop, but to our surprise it was closed for repairs. We ended up finding a place called El Caporal and WOW, was it the most delicious, fresh, and authentic mexican food, ever! Chris and I both gave them a 5 start Yelp review and I don’t really do Yelp reviews, but they deserved it. It was the best mexican food I have ever had, every single bite was bursting with flavor, and the owners were wonderful. So, if you ever find yourself in Monterey Bay, CA do yourself a favor and go eat at El Caporal…trust me you will not regret it. Chris and I just about needed a wheelbarrow to get ourselves back to our room…I don’t think either of us have ever been that full before, but the food was so good we couldn’t allow one single bite being left behind. I swear we were food drunk! We watched some baseball when we got back to our room and kicked back as our bodies tried to digest all the wonderful food we just ate. Then it was lights out to prepare for another day of driving and adventure as we make our way to San Francisco!

Stay tuned to hear about the rest of our vacation! Leave me a comment and tell me about your favorite adventures or places to travel, I look forward to hearing all about it!
