My cozy sanctuary. Balcony makeover!

Hi friends!

I’m a big fan of decorating. There is something so rewarding about creating a space for my family that is cozy, functional, and stylish. I’m the type of person that gets bored easily with my “space” and I need to change it up a bit. Another thing I love…is cleaning like a mad woman all day, then lighting some candles in the evening, pouring a glass of wine, and taking in the rewarding feeling of a clean home. I noticed recently that even if I add a plant to our home or move around a few things, I fall in love with our home all over again. One of my favorite spaces is our balcony. It’s pretty small, so learning how to make the best use of space is so important. You don’t have to get discouraged just because an area is small…you can still make it a wonderful and cozy sanctuary that you love.

We live in an apartment and out deck is about 6 x 12 approx. 72sq ft, so we wanted to figure out a way to make our balcony a little bit more private without making it feel claustrophobic. I found some bamboo reed fencing at Home Depot that was perfect for a little added privacy. We opted for the thinner bamboo so that there was still good air flow and light coming into our balcony space. My fiance, Chris used a staple gun to secure it to the existing wood railing on our balcony. It has worked great, and has been able to withstand the wind and occasional yucky weather we get. Our new neighbor loved the idea so much that they went out and did the same thing to their balcony!

wicker bench and cushion

I was driving around one day and found a really great wicker bench that someone was getting rid of. It was not in the greatest shape, but I knew with a little love it would be perfect. I brought the bench home and sprayed it down with the hose, to help remove any dirt or peeling paint. I then spray painted the wicker bench black, with 2 in 1 spray paint in satin black. It already has the primer in it, so it saved me a lot of time…with the satin finish it gives it just a touch of gloss without making it look ridiculously shiny. The bench turned out great! Holy Pores! Skin Care in CA

Hello beauties!

skin care

My skin and I have been at war with each other since I moved to California. It’s pretty much been an on again, off again war. I am that girl that has always had perfect skin, I never washed my face unless I was in the shower, I would sleep in my make-up, the whole nine-yards of lazy skin care. (I know, gag, right?) I hate that old Kaysha, with the perfect skin…then again I really want her back. I have always had dry skin, but not so dry that it was flaky. Now, my skin is a bit more on the greasy side, but not terrible. I do have break-outs much more than I used to and I feel like my pores are the size of Texas. [Read more...]

Sometimes you just have to be silly!

Sometimes when you’re out running errands, you just have to take some time to be silly! When you’re at the grocery, ride the cart through the parking lot. When you’re at Sports Authority, sit in one of their rad bunjo chairs…and laugh as hard as I did! When you’re at Costco, eat every single sample you can get your hands on.

They have this great hat shop called The Village Hat Shop at Shoreline Village in Long Beach. It’s right on the water and makes for a quick, fun outing.

Rainy Days in Hunter Rain Boots

Hello!

We have been getting lots of rain the past few days, here in California. I am not a huge fan of constant rain…I was born and raised in Oregon, so I’ve had my fair share of rain. Since moving to California I have acclimated…and well, now I’m a spoiled brat, weather snob! Haha…ok, I’m not that extreme.

California has been in the middle of a quite nasty drought, so the rain is a blessing. There is something refreshing about it raining here for the past few days. The rain cleanses the earth, nourishes nature, and cleans the slate. It’s like a shower for the earth. [Read more...]

Caiden and his independence

Hi Darlings!

Caiden, or “Hot Sauce” as we like to call him, is our seven year old son. He recently had a chocolate bar fundraiser for baseball. I’m sure that many of you are familiar with fundraisers. I know everyone just loves them, right? Yeah, I know not really… So, Caiden had two boxes of chocolate bars, 60 bars in each box. My dad happened to be visiting at the time Caiden got his boxes of chocolate; my dad being the amazing man and papa that he is, bought an entire box. What? Yes, the whole box. He can’t even eat the chocolate, because he is on a healthy lifestyle kick. That is one dedicated papa!

Caiden was left to sell 60 bars of chocolate on his own. [Read more...]
