Hello beauties!
My skin and I have been at war with each other since I moved to California. It’s pretty much been an on again, off again war. I am that girl that has always had perfect skin, I never washed my face unless I was in the shower, I would sleep in my make-up, the whole nine-yards of lazy skin care. (I know, gag, right?) I hate that old Kaysha, with the perfect skin…then again I really want her back. I have always had dry skin, but not so dry that it was flaky. Now, my skin is a bit more on the greasy side, but not terrible. I do have break-outs much more than I used to and I feel like my pores are the size of Texas.
I have been scouring the internet, magazines, Sephora, and Nordstom for the answer to my skin prayers…and well, what I find to be true, for me, at least…is that the more I mess with my skin, this more pissed off it gets. So, here is where I’m at…
I only wash my face lightly when I am in the shower, with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub. This product received the readers choice award, in 2009 from Allure Magazine. So you know it’s good, plus it smells delightful.
Now, let me tell you about my handy home-made remedy for toning down those pores. All you need are two things, baking soda and lemon juice. (I buy the packaged kind, I don’t use fresh squeezed lemons) One of my favorite things about this is how cheap it is and how easy. It really works. With so many products out there these days claiming to do this and that, how do we know what to buy? What if we hate it and paid a ton for it? I like to pamper myself without breaking the bank, there is a time and place to splurge and trust me, I do, but if I can find something cheap, natural, easy, and effective - you bet I’m going for it.
All you need to do is put 2 Tbsp. of baking soda in a small bowl and add a few drops of lemon juice. It’s going to make that volcano type reaction so be aware of that. That is why I only do a few drops at a time, plus you don’t want to over do it with the lemon juice. You want the end result to be a paste. Now, start gently rubbing it all over your face, avoiding the eye area and focusing mostly on those pesky big pore areas. Do not scrub, make sure to gently massage it onto your face doing about 30 seconds of rubbing for each area. Now, let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Wash with warm water. I do this mask every other day…after I shower. Side note: This is not going to completely make your pores disappear, and especially not after doing it just once. However, it does work…and most certainly helps minimize them.
Once my face is washed, I dry it with my towel, but then also let it air dry for 5-10 minutes. After that I moisturize, using Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream. This stuff rocks my world! It is a gentle face cream -it comes scented or un-scented. I usually don’t like scented face moisturizer, but the Olay is so mild - I love it. This product has won several awards and beat out products that are hundreds of dollars. Olay has been around forever and they really stepped up their game with this one. A little bit goes a long way, I have probably had my current tub of it for 2 months…and I’m just about to run out. I have a childhood friend, that has a Grandma in her 90′s. This lady doesn’t look a day over 70 and she is a witty little thing! The only product she has ever used for skin care is the original Olay face lotion. The proof is in her face that this stuff is quality without breaking the bank. I find it on sale at CVS or Walgreens all the time.
Tell me what your favorite skin care products are, or what your routine is, I’d love to compare notes and see what works best for you.
Now go give your skin some love!

You should totally try it, It’s super easy and obviously cheap! I thought it would be harsh, because I have sensitive skin…but it seems to work great. I never used to have big ol’ pores until I moved to California. I think my skin is just still adjusting…but this is a fantastic alternative in the mean time. I hope it works for you as well!
there is nothing worse than having a change in your skin, it takes me so long to figure out what to change in my skincare to fix it all
