Hello my fellow funky fitness friends! (haha, I’m ridiculous..you see what I did there?)
So, I have a confession to make…I love food. Hi, my name is Kaysha and I am a foodie fanatic. I have always had to watch my weight as I have mentioned in a previous blog. As I get older staying in shape is more of a challenge. I moved to California from Oregon almost a year ago…and in that time I have gained 20 pounds. WHAT!?!?! Yes, 20 muffin top lovin’ pounds. Oh, well…stuff happens. I like to think of it as love weight, I’m in love with a wonderful man, our beautiful kids, and this fantastic sunny state. It’s happy fat, what can I say - So, since it’s happy fat I try and not get too angry at it. However, this 20 pound has left me with less clothing options and that I do not like. I’m stubborn, so I absolutely refuse to buy bigger clothes…I also refuse to stuff myself into something that doesn’t fit…there is nothing cute or comfortable about that.
Even with my 20 pounds of extra Kaysha…I have been trying not to beat myself up too much. Some days are better than others. The point is I’m still pretty healthy and my BMI is not higher than it should be. I decided it was time to take action, because summer is right around the corner…which means my birthday is right around the corner. I have given myself some incentive to stick to a plan and shed the pounds….
Ok, so…my birthday is in June and that’s when summer really kicks off - we have two pools where we live and I love to lay out in the sunshine. My incentive is this…if I lose the 20 pounds by my birthday, I get to reward myself with a new swim suit. That a pretty sweet deal if you ask me! A better, healthier, more toned body for summer, and a great bathing suit to get tan in. My Momma-Kon used to always say, “Tan fat is better than white fat.” Haha, I agree. Listen, my body is never going to be super model perfect, it just isn’t. I have been pregnant and gained WAY too much weight. It took a toll on my body, but this is the deal…no one is perfect, really, no one. If I’m comfortable enough with my body to wear a bathing suit and get a tan by the pool…then that’s all that matters. Try and put more focus on you feeling good about you and screw what anyone else thinks. I will bet you that even the person with the most perfect body at the beach, pool, or where ever has insecurities about their body. Keep that in the back of your head, at the end of the day we all struggle with something. If someone tries to judge you, just know that is a reflection of their own insecurities and thoughts about themselves, what a sad way to live. The most important opinion about yourself, is your own. Be your own best friend.
If you want to jump on the fitness train with me, I’d love to have you with me!
Here is what I’ve been up to:
I am doing the 30-Day Ab Challenge as well as the 30-Day Squat Challenge.
Let me tell you, this is hard work…that doesn’t seem so bad. It’s kind of fun. The way I am looking at it, is this…It’s only 30-days (this is how I trick myself, because I plan on doing it every month.) I can do 30-days, no biggie, right? Another great thing is this…I don’t know about you, but there is something about checking something off my to-do list that just makes me giddy! So every time I complete 1 of the 30-days I get to mark it off. It feels like an accomplishment and a small victory. It’s really all about the little things in life!
Next, I have been using the My Fitness Pal app like religion. I mentioned this app in another blog, and seriously, it works. It’s amazing what journaling your food intake can do for you.
Results: this works and it so simple. I hate being on diets or life style changes, that are chaotic and confusing. Simple is best for me. This is simple. I have lost 5 pounds. I am only on day 11. What? Yes, day 11…there is nothing like that feeling you get when you put on a pair of jeans that were once snug…and ahhh, not so snug anymore. 5 pounds doesn’t sound like a lot, but it really is. If you start to get discouraged with only losing 5 pounds…pick up a 5 pound bag of potatoes next time you go to the grocery, it will give you a better perspective. One more thing, when you first begin working out, some of you might feel bigger, like you gained weight…that’s how I feel, usually after two weeks this goes away. I’m not sure what that is all about, but don’t get frustrated just push through it…remember it’s only 30-days (wink, wink).
Get yourself a friend to get on board with you. You can hold each other accountable, and be each others cheerleaders. If you can’t find anyone that wants to do it…I’ll be your cheerleader.
Let me know what y’all think and tell me about your results, and plans. If you have anything you want me to try out or do with you - workout and diet wise, give me a shout. Get out there you fitness rockstars! Have fun with this!
Happy getting physical,
K
P.S. You’re never going to catch me posting revealing pictures of myself on my blog. I know that people like to see comparison pictures, but some of them tend to be borderline skanky. That is not my M.O. - it just isn’t.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, my goal is not to show you what you should look like. We all have different shapes…so it would be un-fair of me to post a picture and assume that y’all are the same. Many of you will be smaller, some the same size, some bigger…height, shape, structure…it all plays a role. Do what makes you feel good. Watch your own progress, because that is what matters most.
I promise I will only suggest helpful things that work…or at least work for me. If I stumble upon something that is a terrible idea, I’ll let you know so you don’t waste you time. This is about working together!

I can totally relate to gaining happy fat! I’ve put on about 15 pounds of LOVE!! But, I’m ready to make some steps to knock down a few pounds too. Thank you for the motivation to just do something!!
