Don’t let social media rule your world.

Social Media has become a huge part of today’s world, and though I use it - I try to be cautious about how much time I’m spending on it, and what I am using social media for. It’s a nice tool to have to stay connected with people near and far, but lets face it most of us don’t even talk to the majority of the people on our “Friends” list - me included. I keep the people on my “Friends” list there for mostly one simple reason, when I am feeling insightful - I want to share it with as many people as possible. I do know that many people don’t care what I have to say, many people are too lazy to read my long posts, and some just don’t notice - but to the ones that do, I hope it helps in some small way - to those that don’t I hope someday I say exactly what you need on the the exact day you need it most.

The reason behind my rare posts, are genuine, honest, and loving for myself. I write for me, for the way it makes me feel, and for the freedom it gives me. I love the way my fingers click so fast along the keyboard, I love that the more I have to say the faster the momentum behind my fingers gets, I love that feeling that I can’t keep up with myself because I’m bursting with ideas and thoughts. I don’t post for attention, for pity, or for praise - I post because I love what I have to say, and it makes me feel good to put some good into the universe - the social media universe, even.

How often do you turn on your computer, ipad, tablet, or cell phone to look at social media - and see nothing but negative, toxic, drama crap all over the place - and yet we keep going back - we keep looking, and some of us cannot refrain from commenting on these things we see. Sometimes we are outraged, supportive, or poke fun. Sometimes this happens inside of me, but the difference is that 9.5 times out of 10 - I don’t say a word. The more drama we become a part of , the more drama we invite into our own lives. It is OK to be supportive, but set your boundaries, and choose your battles.

If you’re the one gossiping all over social media, spreading angry hurtful words, airing your dirty laundry, etc. - LET IT GO. Be the one that people look forward to see what you have to say, the one out of the other 20-30 post in a news feed that is actually positive, because in a social media world full of a bunch of people bitching - the positive, funny, and light heatrted ones are the ones that actually stick out. If you want positive things in your life, then give positive things to the universe, your friends, family, and strangers. Don’t think for one second that you get to be a drama filled, publicity stunting, cry baby, lunatic - and get all the good in life too. You have to work hard for it, and I get it, we all have our days - all of us, but deal with it privately. If you need some support you have a phone-call someone, you have a family-hug one of them, you have a hand-write a letter to yourself about how awesome you are. Write a letter to whoever is pissing you off, and don’t send it. Find a positive outlet that isn’t polluting other peoples lives.

Please?

Please?

I think if more people put their phones down at breakfast, lunch or dinner tables and started looking each other in the eyes and having conversations the world would be a better place. If visiting with someone, catching up and having conversations, instead of silence while two people sit in a room together and look at their phones, or text other people - we need to bring that personal bond back - back to the basics. I would rather write someone a hand written card or letter over an e-mail or text anyday. I think that it holds more of my energy in it - it feels more authentic. I get it, texting is a helpful tool, I’m a big fan - sometimes you just want to ask a simple question or say hi - same thing with e-mail. I believe it is all useful and technology is always evolving. I love it and think it is pretty fantastic, but it gets abused. Anything can be a abused - it’s about moderation people. Pick and choose the people you put more effort into, but put the effort in. I think people are more lazy today than ever, and it is so very sad.

I am not exempt from any of this, I am a guilty party as well. I try, however, to be very aware and to catch myself, pull myself back, and do the right thing. No one is perfect, certainly not me, but we can all try a little bit harder to be a better person, and to put a better energy into the universe, because at the end of the day we all share the universe - so we all share the same energy - lets let the good energy outweigh the bad. I just ask you all to put a little more thought into the things that you do, and say. I challenge myself to do the same.

Just remember that the saying, “If it’s on the Internet, it has to be true.” Yeah, that is a joke - as in not the truth, as in don’t believe everything you read or see. Sometimes people are awful, and they want to offend you, and sometimes people are just speaking their mind, not trying to offend you, not trying to judge you, or make you agree - just speaking what they believe, to to pick and choose what you let offend you, what you react to, and what you spend your precious energy on.

Disconnect for a minute

Go out and enjoy something that is organic, like fresh air, a hug from your partner or loved one, a tree - just breathe it all in, and make a memory of it.

You rock - so let it shine!

Enjoy your weekend.
